UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN TOXICOLOGY CENTRE RETROFIT

This project involved renovating and expanding the main floor of the University’s Toxicology Centre into new spaces for aquatics laboratories for the culture of fish and frogs.   As this high humidity environment was being inserted into an existing inefficient building envelope, a surface applied water proofing was applied to all interior surfaces in the aquatic lab area.

New faculty offices, grad student study spaces, and chemistry and mass spectrometer labs were inserted into new and existing spaces on the upper floors.  Portions of existing floors connecting to additions located at grade and over top of portions of the existing building were renovated as part of the project.

Mechanical systems for the new spaces were housed in a new penthouse and fed down the exterior of the building through a cantilevered shaft to avoid cutting through existing occupied spaces.
