UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN STUDENT RESIDENCE

As part of an extended study for the renovation of Place Riel at the University of Saskatchewan, SEPW Architecture Inc. explored options associated with placing approximately 250 student beds in two towers in front of the Campus Student Centre.  An additional 100 beds were proposed over an interior Student Common between the Murray Building and Marquis Hall behind Place Riel.  At the same time, the University of Saskatchewan was reviewing the feasibility of constructing new student residences and was studying various siting options.  SEPW Architecture Inc.’s rationale for locating the residences on this site was that the enhanced services provided by an expanded and renovated Campus Centre would greatly benefit by having a resident student population.  This scheme also capitalized on the adjacency of existing food services – rather than having to incorporate a new commercial kitchen and cafeteria, the existing dining rooms and kitchen of Marquis Hall could be utilized to serve the new residences.
